ProPak Asia 2010 opens with strong attendance, focus on industry growth

Bangkok — 16 June 2010 — Under the banner "Go Clean Go Green," ProPak Asia 2010 opened today at Thailand’s premier trade exhibition center BITEC with attendance as strong as ever for one of the Asia’s biggest international processing, filling and packaging technology events.

The event targets food, drink, and pharmaceutical manufacturers, canners, laboratories, scientists, and key decision makers as well as related government agencies, distributers and importers. Registration for the trade show has exceeded expectations, according to the event organiser Bangkok Exhibition Services (BES) with a 14% increase over last year and 57 countries pre-registered.

"The excellent turnout this year is indicative of how strong the movement is among manufacturers in Asia to upgrade to advance processing and packaging technology, which allows for improved efficiency, compliance and cost effectiveness and ultimately competitiveness & sales," says David Aitken, Managing Director of BES.

“The 18 edition of ProPak Asia is made very special with the region’s largest integration of the latest developments and innovations in processing, filling, packing, labeling and storage. It also features a vast array of related solutions, from quality assurance, automation, refrigeration and transportation, to pollution control and ingredients for local and international buyers.”

This year's event occupies a total of 20,000 m2 in four halls, which locate more than 900 exhibiting companies from 42 countries. It is expected to attract more than 30,000 visitors from 63 countries, along with official groups from China, France, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and UK. It is estimated that the show will generate sales of an estimated US$120 million with post-event trading rounding up the sum to more than US$300 million.

Riding on the theme, Go Clean Go Green, this edition emphasises on the task of creating greater awareness of environmental issues among exhibitors and visitors, and campaigning for the use of cleaner, environmentally friendly technology, as well as the practice of material reduction and recycling.

Thailand in particular can immensely benefit from ProPak Asia 2010. In addition to investment flow and trade value mounted by active spending of international visitors, organising a first rated trade show like this enhances Thailand’s position as a regional processing and packaging hub, thanks to advantages of strategic location, raw materials, labours and logistics.

Mr. Aitken added, “The show in Bangkok is built around impressive growth of the ASEAN economy that serves almost 600 million people in ten countries. From here we are sure to see a big step forward in processing, filling and packaging in many key sectors such as food, beverage, pharmaceutical and cosmetics.”

TCEB Exhibition Director, Supawan Teerarat, said “one of major benefits gained through ProPak Asia is cash flow and multiplied trade value spurred by spending of international visitors, and it will also be a boost to knowledge sharing between experts and the audience. Indirectly, it enhances Thailand’s position as a regional processing and packaging hub.”

“TCEB is proud to be able to lend our full support and backing to this premier regional packaging exhibition. Regardless of the political concerns, everything is in progress with confidence of local and international exhibitors. Visitors are also flocking to confirm their participations. Henceforth, despite a productive business trading and superior networking, TCEB would like to ensure all participants a high level of comfort and convenience when partaking at ProPak Asia 2010” Mrs. Teerarat concluded.
